I've manually created or imported Rack PDUs and they have an outlet count in Hyperview that differs from the physical hardware. How can I change the outlet count for these assets?
1 Answer
Outlets for devices are treated as components of that device that have their own assigned properties and values. Unlike a property itself which con be overwritten after an asset has been created, the component aspect of a device is locked for a device once entered. There are a couple of primary ways that th e outlet data for a device can be corrected though.
Device Discovery
The recommended solution to this issue is to run discoveries on the asset. Though users cannot manually reconfigure the asset's outlet count after the asset has been created, the discovery service in Hyperview can overwrite that information. Depending on the manufacturer and model of device, it will typically discover outlet information such as outlet count and outlet status which will generate sensors for the device and thus update those outlets. This solution also maintains any custom properties or historical data that might be associated to that device.
Manual Update
In order to manually update the outlet count for an asset, the asset must be removed from the system and then re-added. This is not recommended versus discovering the device itself, but sometimes it is the quickest option. Keep in mind that removing a device will also remove the historical data and custom properties that have been assigned to it.
