Why does using a scanner to enter property values result in multiple entries?

When I use a barcode scanner to enter information into Hyperview, the value or the property are sometimes duplicated on the asset. Is there a way to stop this from occurring? Is there a way to remove the extra data?

Using barcode scanners is a great way to ensure the correct values are entered into Hyperview to avoid mistyping data; however, the barcode scanner needs to be correctly configured so that the data formatting is proper. Certain scanners have options for language, casing, and terminators that may interfere with the formatting. In order to ensure that Hyperview receives the correct data from the scanned tags, please setup the following parameters on the scanner.

Keyboard Language:

America EN Keyboard

Convert Case:

Disable Convert Case

Do not allow the barcode scanner to change the string case when entering data.

Terminator:

None / CR / TAB

The terminator is the key entered at the end of the scanned values automatically by the scanner. There are a few options that will work with Hyperview to enter information

  • None option will not enter any additional characters at the end of the scanned string.

  • CR option will enter a Carriage Return at the end of the scanned string, simulating the user pressing the enter key once.

  • Tab option will enter a tab character at the end of the scanned string, simulating the user pressing the tab key once.

Ensure that one of these 3 options above is selected for the scanner configuration. Some barcode scanners come with the default terminator set to CR&LF (Carriage Return & Line Feed). If this option is selected, then the scanner may input duplicate values or properties to Hyperview.
