Why is there a number after the device name of a discovered asset?

After I run a discovery on my assets in Hyperview, some of the assets are created with a number after the actual name of the device. Why do I see "Master_1" or "Master (1)" for some of my devices?

Daisy Chained Devices:
Hyperview auto-discovery supports various types of devices and device types. Certain devices that are discoverable are considered "daisy chained". These devices are connected together in a linear series and communicate through a single device on the network. Often times the configuration on these daisy chained devices are very similar and can report the same values for certain properties like name. Under these circumstances, these devices will be discovered and their chain index value will be reported after the name of the device.

Example:

  • RPDU_1

  • RPDU_2

  • RPDU_3

Multiple Devices with Same Name:
Hyperview does not allow you to manually enter a duplicate name for a device within a specific location, and the Hyperview auto-discovery feature has to follow those rules as well. In order to differentiate devices with the same name, Hyperview will append a number at the end of the device's discovered name.

Example:

  • RPDU(1)

  • RPDU(2)

  • RPDU(3)
